William K Brehm, Fordson High School graduation, January 1947
Born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, William K. Brehm is a graduate of Fordson High School and the University of Michigan. While at Michigan he received a Regents’ Alumni Scholarship that covered his undergraduate tuition.
In 1968, after serving four years on the staff of the Secretary of Defense, Mr. Brehm was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Army. In 1970, he left government life to become Vice President of the consumer-products firm Dart Industries. He rejoined public service as Assistant Secretary of Defense in 1973, and served throughout the administration of President (and fellow U-M alumnus) Gerald R. Ford.

Proud of the role that his Fordson and U-M education played in his distinguished career, Bill Brehm established the Brehm Scholarships to encourage accomplished Fordson students to attend the University of Michigan. He recently created the Brehm Medical Scholarships, full-tuition awards for undergraduate Brehm Scholars who go on to study at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Bill Brehm is also the creator, with his wife, Dee, of U-M’s new Brehm Center for Type 1 Diabetes Research and Analysis.
